Nairobi, November 13 (RHC)-- Cuba´s Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, highlighted the island´s achievements in the area of population and development at a world forum on the subject, underway in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital.

The meeting marks the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo, where 179 governments adopted a landmark Programme of Action which set out to empower women and girls for their sake, and for the benefit of their families, communities and nations.

Malmierca wrote on Twitter that during the general debate of the International Conference, he highlighted the role of Cuban women and reproductive health, despite the blockade of the United States against the island.

During the discussions, issues such as maternal mortality and violence and practices harmful to women, including child marriage, will be discussed.

As part of the activities in Kenya, Malmierca announced a working meeting with the Minister of Health to discuss bilateral cooperation on that field, and also spoke with the Algerian Minister of Health, who co-chairs the Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation.
