Cuban president meets in Las Tunas with relatives of doctor abducted in Kenya

Havana, January 17 (RHC)-- The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, met in the city of Las Tunas with the relatives of Cuban doctor Assel Herrera.

The doctor, along with his colleague Landy Rodríguez, from Villa Clara province, has been held hostage in Kenya since last April.

The Cuban leader reiterated to Herrera's father the support of the Cuban government because the Revolution does not abandon its children, the Cuban presidency website said in a tweet.

During the encounter, Diaz-Canel asked about the health of the parents, the university studies of Doctor Herrera's daughter, and the support of the neighbors, among other details.

The president assured them that authorities are working tiressly and in coordination with Kenyan authorities to achieve the return to Cuba of both health professionals.
