Havana, January 27 (RHC)—Tributes are taking place island-wide this Monday, on the eve of the 167th anniversary of the birth of Cuba’s National Hero, Jose Marti.

And following the tradition, a torchlight march will depart Havana’s University during the evening towards the site of the former quarry of San Lazaro, where a 16-year-old Marti was sent to cut rock for his ideals, and it is now a memorial called Fragua Martiana.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez called on the people to make history in this edition of the torchlight.

On Twitter, he called for a massive demonstration in homage to the Apostle and in repudiation of those who tried to tarnish his legacy with subversive actions financed from the United States.
