Cuban government official says the island remains free of Coronavirus

Havana, February 18 (RHC)-- Francisco Durán, National Director of Epidemiology, of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health -MINSAP-, assured  Monday in Havana that there is no diagnosed or suspected case of the Coronavirus on the island so far.

The expert reported that there are already resources in Cuba for the specific diagnosis of this respiratory disease, and highlighted that the Cuban antiviral drug recombinant Interferon alpha 2 B is one of the medicines used to face the epidemic in China.

He also said that on the island there is an intersectoral plan to tackle the Coronavirus, conducted by MINSAP together with the Civil Defence and that health personnel and other organizations are being trained.

Carmelo Trujillo, Head of the International Health Control Department of MINSAP, reiterated that epidemiological surveillance is being maintained in ports, airports and international marinas, as well as in primary health care.
