Havana, April 29 (RHC) – The General Secretary of the Confederation of Cuban Workers, Ulises Guilarte, said that Cubans stage the largest annual demonstration in the country on May Day, and this year they all have important motivations, since International Workers’ Day has a special significance for all Cubans.

Guilarte, who is also member of the Communist Party’s Central Committee, said that the march will take place amidst celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the workers’ organization and after its 20th Congress.

The trade union leader said that Cuban workers are the protagonists of the current update of the country’s economic model as they are involved in efforts towards efficiency. “We are marching to ratify our commitment for the return home of the three heroes still held in U.S. prisons, said Guilarte in reference to Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero and Ramon Labañino, who are serving unfair sentences in U.S. prisons.

He also said that Cuban workers will demand the lifting of the U.S. imperialist blockade against Cuba, and that the most important message of the massive march will be the colorful, massive and firm mobilization of the people.

Guilarte said that the march will express the workers’ support of the Cuban Revolution and its leaders.
