Havana, May 2 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel will participate in the virtual summit "United Against COVID-19," convened by Azerbaijan in its capacity as president of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), official sources announced.

The meeting will be held on Monday, May 4th, at 7:00 a.m. Havana time by videoconference, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement.  The virtual meeting will take the form of a contact group, made up of representatives from the different regions that make up the Movement, and will be headed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Díaz-Canel will be accompanied by the Cuban Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Public Health, Bruno Rodríguez and José Ángel Portal Mirandez, respectively.

The relevance of the Non-Aligned Movement in the current situation is corroborated by the adoption of statements in support of the World Health Organization (WHO) on COVID-19, which promote global unity, solidarity and international cooperation.

The group of more than 100 countries called for the setting aside of political differences and the elimination of unilateral coercive measures, which violate international law and the United Nations Charter and limit the capacity of states to effectively deal with the pandemic, which has already left nearly 230,000 throughout the world.
