Madrid, May 19 (RHC)-- The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Raul Castro, expressed his deep sorrow for the recent death of Spanish politician Julio Anguita, according to the newspaper Mundo Obrero.

In its digital edition, the official organ of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) published on Tuesday a message from Raul Castro to the leader of the Spanish Communists, Enrique Santiago, on the occasion of Anguita's death last week.

"We know with deep sorrow the physical loss of comrade and beloved Spanish Communist leader, Julio Anguita González," the former Cuban president said in his letter.  Raul recalled the deep relations of trust developed by the PCC with the historic leader of Izquierda Unida, the party he led between 1989 and 2000, and secretary general of the PCE for a decade, from 1988 until 1998.

Raúl Castro highlighted Anguita as a man committed to "supporting the Cuban revolutionary process and condemning the criminal blockade imposed on our nation" by the United States.
