Paris, May 25 (RHC)-- More than 40 social, political and trade union organizations in Europe support the call to award the Nobel Peace Prize to the Cuban medical brigades that are fighting COVID-19 in various parts of the world.

Associations and groups from France, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Belgium, Ireland and Switzerland added their signatures to the initiative, according to the update offered to Prensa Latina by the platform launched at the end of April to promote this recognition to the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Doctors Specialized in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics, created in 2005.

Over the weekend, the Belgian solidarity organization Friends of Cuba, the French trade union section Indecosa CGT 65, the Torpignattara Circle of the Communist Refoundation Party of Italy, ALBA-Switzerland and the Casa de Amistad con Cuba of Badalona (Spain) joined the international campaign, which was launched last month in France.

Hungarian movements and forces, including the Workers' Party (Budapest), ATTAC and the Latin American Society, have also signed on to the campaign.

A petition on the portal MesOpinions.com and a group on Facebook, with almost 1,700 members already, accompany the work of the platform defending the Nobel Peace Prize for Cuban health professionals present in dozens of countries, including members of specialized brigades that support the fight against COVID-19 in 24 nations.

The promoters highlighted in their appeal Cuba's internationalism and the work of the Henry Reeve contingent, which in the last 15 years has saved millions of lives in areas of Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia hit by earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and epidemics.

The aid from the island's doctors first arrived in Europe in the current context of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus confrontation, with brigades deployed in Italy and Andorra.

The platform insisted that the help of the Cuban doctors can no longer be hidden by the big media, because "despite the infamous blockade imposed by the United States, which has lasted more than 50 years, Cuba in solidarity sends its army of white coats all over the planet to face the COVID-19 pandemic."
