Havana, June 29 (RHC)-- Cuba, as a member of the Executive Board of the World Food Program (WFP), has the will and the commitment to support the work of this United Nations agency, said José Carlos Rodríguez Ruíz, the island's permanent representative to international organizations based in Rome.

Speaking at the Annual Session of the WFP Board, he stressed that the agency's dual mandate -- humanitarian and development -- is vital for a world free of the scourge of hunger and malnutrition.

"We commend the efforts of WFP and its staff in the field, often under very difficult conditions," said Rodríguez Ruíz.

He reiterated that Cuba will always be ready to offer its cooperation to countries that require it and will continue to advocate for the WFP to continue contributing to the strengthening of public policies and national priorities in beneficiary countries with its support.
