Panama, January 8 (RHC)--Health authorities in the province of Chiriqui, in western Panama, thanked the group of Cuban doctors who have been working at the local Rafael Hernández hospital since the end of December.

José Saldaña, regional director of the Social Security Fund, expressed to the media that this collaboration of a 'multidisciplinary team from the sister Republic of Cuba will give a break to their staff, who have been overwhelmed by the complicated epidemiological situation.

In a meeting, the Chiriqui authorities gave the Cuban ambassador to Panama, Lydia Margarita González, a distinction in gratitude to the Cuban government for the gesture of solidarity. At the same time, deputy Miguel Ángel Fanovich had words of appreciation for the island's collaboration.

More than twenty specialists, including intensive care doctors, internists, cardiologists, and pulmonologists, are working on the care of patients affected by Covid-19 in Chiriqui, the third province most affected by the pandemic, after the capital and West Panama.
