Havana, January 12 (RHC)-- The national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba, Dr. Francisco Durán, reported Tuesday two deaths and 487 positive samples to Covid19 during the last 24 hours. Forty-four cases were from international travelers.

The island now accumulates 15 494 cases and 155 fatalities since the beginning of the epidemic.

For a third consecutive day, the new cases set a new record for the highest number reported in a day. For these diagnoses, 14 350 samples were tested.

During his usual press conference, the specialist informed that 6,212 patients were hospitalized, of them 3,057 positive cases-- the highest number ever.

Havana provinces reported the most cases, 195, followed by Matanzas with 66, Santiago de Cuba 44, and Holguin with 39. All of the provinces and the Isle of Youth's special municipality have reported new cases in the last two weeks.

Dr. Duran said that with the steady increase of samples' daily study, the number of positive cases is expected to grow in the coming days.
