Piedad Cordoba reiterates commitment to Cuban Five's cause

Havana, September 28 (RHC) Former Colombian Senator Piedad Cordoba in Havana reiterated her commitment to the cause of the five Cuban anti-terrorism fighters unjustly convicted in the United States.

After meeting with René González (one of the five Cuban political prisoners now back in Cuba after completing his sentence) and relatives of the other four men still imprisoned in the U.S., Cordoba said that the injustice commited against the five heroes was the way that Washington found to punish the people of Cuba for its decision to be free and democratic.

She also reiterated her resolution and that of many people and organizations in Colombia to continue the battle for the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez.

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González were arrested in 1998 in Miami, for monitoring the actions of violent, anti-Cuban groups based in the United States. In 2001 they were given long prison sentences after a trial that a UN panel described as biased.
