El Salvador, September 18 (RHC) -- The government of El Salvador has condemned the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.

Foreign Minister Hugo Martínez said that such unilateral action is against all international treaties and conventions. "We believe it is an anachronistic measure and all countries of the world must speak out against it."

Martinez said that the blockade was interference in the internal affairs of the country and "of course, as the government of El Salvador, we are also against interference in the internal affairs of any country."

The Salvadorian foreign minister said: "Just as we like to exercise our sovereignty, we like to make our own decisions and we believe that should also respect the rights enjoyed by other countries to exercise their sovereignty and decisions."

Martinez attended on Sunday the V Congress of the Salvadoran Coordinator of Solidarity for Cuba, which highlighted the good ties between the two peoples, calling it “historic.”

Last week, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Abelardo Moreno presented in Havana the report of Cuba on Resolution 68/8 of the United Nations entitled "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba."

According to the document, in 52 years, the blockade has generated economic losses of over US$100 billion. Every year since 1992, Cuba has been presenting similar resolutions that have been approved by an overwhelming majority in the United Nations.

In 2013, it had the support of 188 countries, with objections by only two countries -- the United States and Israel -- and abstentions by three nations –- Micronesia, Palau and the Marshall Islands.
