Havana, October 15 (RHC-PL), -- The Cuban Centre of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CGEB) showed today its advances in the creation of a vaccine against the different serotypes of dengue.

The characteristics of the research, which is in the first stage of validation, were shown in the Symposium of Technical Advances in Microbiology which is taking place at Havana's Convention Centre as part of the VIII Cuban Congress of Microbiology and Parasitology.

The researcher Luis Javier González, from CGEB, explained that the vaccine under development aims to act against all four existing serotypes of dengue.

In his presentation on proteomics applied to infectious diseases caused by bacteria and viral agents, Gonzalez said the clinical process is based on the laboratory method known as "shotgun proteomics" (jet-propelled proteomic).

This methodology studies the complexities of the interaction between proteins and the different dengue serotypes.

The specialist said that the CIGB is conducting the study in collaboration with the Department of Proteomics in Luxembourg.

The VIII Cuban Congress of Microbiology and Parasitology, which finishes tomorrow, is organised by the Cuban Society of Microbiology and Parasitology, and sponsored by 16 entities and organisations, among which the United Nations Development Program and the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine stand out.
