Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Meets with Visiting President of Pakistani Parliament

Havana, November 6 (RHC) — Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla met Thursday morning in Havana with the visiting president of Pakistan´s Parliament Sardar Ayas, who is currently on an official visit here.

The two dignitaries reviewed the state of bilateral relations, which they termed as 'very good' and discussed prospects for strengthened cooperation in several areas.

During the encounter, the Pakistani parliamentary leader reiterated that his country is grateful for Cuba's solidarity over the past 50 years.

On Wednesday, the high ranking Pakistani official attended a Cuba-Pakistan bilateral parliamentary meeting, during which he also thanked Cuba for the island's health cooperation in 2005, when the doctors with the Henry Reeves medical brigade assisted the victims of an earthquake that rocked the Asian country, saving over two thousand lives.

Sardar, who also heads the Cuba Solidarity Group at the Pakistani Parliament, said that his government is very pleased with his visit to the island.

Meanwhile, Cuban Parliament president Esteban Lazo thanked Pakistan for its support of the Caribbean nation against the US blockade at the latest vote by the UN General Assembly.

In 2015, Cuba and Pakistan will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations. Precisely next year, some 500 Pakistani doctors will graduate from Cuban medical schools.
