Cuban President Holds Talks with Russian Foreign Minister

Havana, Mar 25, (RHC), – Cuban President Raul Castro held talks on Tuesday with Russia´s foreign minister Serguei Lavrov, who paid a working visit to Cuba as part of a Latin American tour.

During the meeting, Raul Castro and Serguei Lavrov stressed the excellent bilateral relations between their countries and ratified their willingness to jointly work to effectively implement a bilateral economic agenda and deepen exchange in areas of mutual interest, according to Granma newspaper.

The Cuban president thanked Russia for its support of the Cuban struggle against the over-50-year US economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba. He also reiterated his government´s position against unilateral sanctions imposed on Russia by the United States and its NATO allies.

Lavrov was accompanied by Russian ambassador to Havana Mikhail L. Kamynin and by the director for Latin America at the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander V. Schetinin.

Also attending were foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez and deputy foreign minister Rogelio Sierra.

Previously, the Russian foreign minister met with Cuban government vice-president Ricardo Cabrisas and with foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez.
