Cuba's Special Development Zone Increases Capacity for Cargo Containers

Havana, March 31 (RHC)-- Cuba's Special Development Zone at Mariel and its port terminal have a capacity to receive 250,000 containers of 20-feet storage a year.

In statements to the press, José Leonardo Sosa, Deputy President of Almacenes Universales, that the center operates local container transport and small operations of container shipping and transfer.

Sosa explained that in 2014, some 300 technicians and other professionals were trained to work at the container terminal. He added that a four-track railway line was also built to facilitate distribution of cargo and transportation of passengers.

Mariel's Container Terminal belongs to the Cuban state-run company Almacenes Universales and is operated by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), one of the world's largest port operators.
