Taxi Driver will Represent Cuban Civil Society in Panama Forum

Havana, Apr 2, (RHC), – The president of a Cuban Taxi cab cooperative, Martin Jose Betancourt will participate at the Entrepreneurial Forum of the 7th Summit of the Americas, in Panama, as an actor of the new changes taking place in Cuban economy.

Martin will join the representatives of Cuban civil society which include intellectuals, farmers, private workers, academics and youths. The Businessmen forum will run April 8/10 grouping leaders from that sector who will consider opportunities for trade and investment to boost social and economic development in the region.

Martin will attend the forum, which will include another 18 Cuban entrepreneurs, with the aim of sharing experiences of his Taxi cooperative with local counterparts. His cooperative was set up in 2013 to help improve passenger transportation in the capital Havana.

The Cuban government has thus far approved 498 cooperatives in different economic areas including catering, agricultural products, construction, technical services, and others.
