Cuban Vice President Calls for Efficiency in Upcoming Sugar Harvest

Havana, November 11 (RHC)- Cuban Vice President Jose Ramon Machado called for increased efficiency during the forthcoming sugar harvest, in order to boost the nation’s economic results.

The Cuban leader visited sugar mills in the Central Cuban province of Villa Clara, which are scheduled to begin operations in December. He said that efficiency and larger production make good sense since they will be translated into larger earnings for all those involved in the harvest.

Workers' earnings could be doubled, but, of course, that will depend on the efficiency, output and results achieved by those involved in the harvest, who will be the main beneficiaries, he noted.

In Villa Clara, the sugar harvest is expected to last 106 days, with a total sugar output of 218 thousand tons, still insufficient if the province’s agricultural and industrial capacities are taken into account, the Cuban leader said.

The idea is to plant, cultivate and attend the sugar fields with the efficiency needed for good results.
