Havana, April 21 (RHC)-- Cuba and Ireland signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at establishing more practical and effective mechanisms for strengthened political consultations and dialogue between the two governments.

The memorandum was signed in Havana by Cuba's Deputy Foreign Minister Rogelio Sierra Diaz and the visiting Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland, Niall Burgess.

In statements to Cuban press, the Irish diplomat said that the signed document is a very important step to strengthen cooperation between the two nations based on the principles and regulations enshrined in the UN Charter.

He added that his country wants to strengthen economic and cultural relations with Cuba, and that Irish companies are also interested in the investment opportunities offered by the Caribbean Island state.
