Cuba and Angola Strengthen Academic Ties

Havana, April 25 (RHC)-- The Cuban Minister of Higher Education, Rodolfo Alarcón, and his Angolan counterpart, Adão do Nascimento, toured on Thursday the Marta Abreu Central University of Las Villas (UCLV), to widen current academic relations.

Adão do Nascimento, who is in the Caribbean nation on the occasion of the 13th edition of the Health for All Scientific-Commercial Fair, thanked that university of Villa Clara for the warm welcome, in his first visit to the higher education institution.

Andres Castro, rector of the UCLV, said the meeting had among its objectives a debate on issues as the Cuban role in the consolidation of the axes of Higher Education in that African republic.
Castro also emphasized on the projects for the creation of biotechnology research centers and plant production, which will strengthen the exchange of experiences between the two countries.

According to Cuban Higher Education Minister, the tour responded to the interest that do Nascimento directly expressed on Cuban universities and verified the potential of the sector in the country.

At the UCLV, the official held talks with Angolan students, visited the History Hall, where the first command headquarters of Ernesto Che Guevara was located in Las Villas, and toured the Institute of Biotechnology.

This is the second institution of this kind visited by do Nascimento. He visited visited the University of Oriente, in Santiago de Cuba in a previous visit. As culmination of his visit to Santa Clara, Adão do Nascimento placed a wreath at the Memorial where the mortal remains of Commander Ernesto Guevara rest.
