U.S. and Latin American Entrepreneurs Interested in Investing in Cuba

Cancun, May 9 (RHC-PL) -- There is great interest from entrepreneurs from the US and Latin America for investment opportunities in Cuba, Lina Pedraza, Cuban Minister of Finance and Prices said yesterday at the World Economic Forum for Latin America in Cancun.

The Cuban official represented her country at the forum which concluded in Cancun, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo on Friday, with the participation of presidents, civil leaders, experts and entrepreneurs from over 40 nations.

"In the plenary and bilateral meetings we have had, we have found a lot of interest in the process of updating the Cuban model and enthusiasm about the possibilities of investment," said the Cuban official.

Pedraza, in an exclusive interview with Prensa Latina, spoke the layout by U.S. entrepreneurs to accelerate their links with Cuba.

'We have asked what to do and we have responded that they have to work in their country, in order to accelerate the end of the economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba exercised and in the case of American companies, is still intact," she stated.

The Cuban minister said that the presentation of the business portfolio of Cuba was attended by hundreds of businessmen, which led to the authorization of a room attached to CCTV.

"We had occasion to contact the Presidents of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto; Haiti, Michel Martelly; and Juan Carlos Varela, of Panama, who expressed messages of affection for our people, he said.

Peña Nieto said in his opening speech of the event the presence of Cuba and the willingness of his government to accompany the island in the process of economic transformation.

Mexico is keen to participate with Cuba in the tourism market, as well as in other sectors where we need foreign capital, added the Minister of Finance and Prices of Cuba.

She announced upcoming visits to the Caribbean island of Secretaries of Tourism and Economy of Mexico, as well as delegations of Mexican businessmen, and commented her meeting with the founder and CEO of the Forum World Economic, Swiss economist Klaus Schwab, as well as forum leaders sought the Cuban participation in the organization of the next meeting.
