Havana, June 3 (RHC-PL)-- A keynote speech on the Cuban cultural policy by Abel Prieto, adviser to the Cuban president, is among the main events of the 13th Latin American Congress on University Extension on Wednesday.

The academic meeting, taking place at Havana's Convention Center, will continue on Wednesday with the workshops: University Extension and Public Policies; Integrated Management of University Extension; University, Territory and Social Transformation; and University Extension and Cultural Promotion.

This event will be held until Thursday, June 4th with the participation of some 400 delegates from more than 20 countries. According to organizers, about 486 papers from 200 universities of Latin America will be analyzed.

“University extension in Cuba will be associated to the cultural training of professionals in a broad sense,” Jose Balsinde, director of that specialty at the Ministry of Higher Education, told Prensa Latina news agency. He said: “A feedback process also occurs when students are linked to society, in that cultural exchange in the community is just where the university will take its knowledge and in turn, enrich from its knowledge.”
