Havana, June 17 (RHC)-- Laotian Deputy Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith expressed in Havana his country's interest in expanding cooperation with Cuba in the biotechnology sector.

During a visit to the Havana-based Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center, Sisoulith met with the director of that entity, Dr. Luis Herrera, as well as with specialists and workers.

The visitor was briefed about the advancement and current projects of the scientific center, which is considered one of the most important of its kind on the island.

The Laotian deputy prime minister was interested in learning about current projects in Cuba to treat HIV-AIDS patients and their effectiveness in the quality of life of those receiving specialized attention.

“We need to learn from this country and the strategy of its government related to allocating a larger budget to develop research projects in the biotechnology area,” said the visitor.

The Laotian official toured the center's production plant, where he witnessed the role of workers in developing genetic engineering and
biotechnological products.
