Santiago de Cuba, July 31 (RHC) --- A huge wreath on behalf of Fidel and Raul Castro was placed at the grave of Frank País in Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba.

Yesterday, July 30th, marked the 58th anniversary of the assassination of Frank País and another young revolutionary Raul Pujol. After the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, this date became the Day of the Martyrs of the Revolution.

More than 35,000 workers from 17 trade union organizations marched through the streets of Santiago de Cuba to recall the funeral march 58 years ago. The procession began at Céspedes Park and traveled down San Pedro Street to Paseo Martí, and the Calzada de Crombet towards the cemetery. The procession was headed by Lazaro Exposito Canto, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and First Secretary of the Party in the province of Santiago de Cuba.

The commemoration was also attended by veteran fighters from the clandestine struggle, families of revolutionary martyrs, students and members of political and mass organizations, who carried two giant flags -- the Cuban flag and the flag of the July 26th Movement.
