Havana, August 6 (RHC) –- Cuba and Bolivia reaffirmed their strong ties of friendship and cooperation during a celebration Wednesday for the 190th anniversary of the independence of that South American nation.

The celebration was held at the headquarters of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) in Havana, on the eve of August 6th, the date that marks the declaration of independence of the provinces of the Upper Peru, the territory known today as the Plurinational State of Bolivia.

Palmiro Soria, Bolivian ambassador in Havana, underlined the positive changes in his country in the last ten years under the presidency of Evo Morales, which have finally recognized and given voice to the majority indigenous population in the country.

"On this 190 anniversary, we Bolivians are celebrating with hope, with chants, excited for all the goods things to come. We are proud to witness our motherland's growth amid a world economic crisis. Bolivia in this golden decade has been growing systematically by some 5 and a half percent every year."

"We also celebrate this 190th anniversary as an important partner in the economic and social development in Latin America. We are part of Latin America's dignified nations, together with Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, among other sister nations that have put a stop to the egotistical interests that subdued our peoples over the last centuries."
