Havana, September 29 (RHC)-- Cuban Parliament President Esteban Lazo on Tuesday welcomed Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang, who is paying an official visit to Cuba aimed at further deepening bilateral relations of friendship between the two nations.

Esteban Lazo, who is also member of the Politbureau of Cuba's Communist Party, expressed his satisfaction after meeting the Vietnamese leader and his delegation by noting that “it was a meeting between historic brothers.”

“You represent the heroic people of Vietnam, to whom we are linked by unbreakable bonds of friendship rooted in our common history of struggle,” Lazo told the Vietnamese president.

The Cuban Parliament president also acknowledged Vietnam’s support of the Cuban Revolution during the tough years of the economic crisis that hit the island in the 1990s, and in the struggle against Washington's economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba.

He also recalled the support of Vietnamese authorities of the 7th Asia-Pacific Regional Forum in Solidarity with Cuba, held last week.

Following the meeting with the Cuban Parliament president, the Vietnamese delegation laid a wreath at the bust of Ho Chi Minh, in Havana. The distinguished visitors are also scheduled to sign collaboration accords with Cuba during their stay.
