Brussels, October 8 (RHC)-- Members of the Asian, Caribbean and Pacific Group (ACP) have called for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.

The position was expressed before the European Parliament by Kombo Gberi, a parliamentarian from Cameroon and co-chair of the Political Committee of the EU-ACP Group States Parliamentary Assembly, meeting in Brussels, the capital of Belgium.

Gberi acknowledged that Cuba, despite the high cost of the blockade for its economy and people, has maintained its principles, solidarity and cooperation with their African brothers and sisters as well as other developing countries.

Also taking part in the meeting were MPs from other African countries who thanked Cuba for its solidarity and described it as the country that has worked more with Africa, mainly in health and education.

From the Group of Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, the stance in favor of the elimination of the so-called 'Common Position' of the European Union against Cuba was reiterated. The meeting was attended by Cuba's ambassador to Belgium, Norma Goicochea.

For the twenty-fourth year in a row, on October 27th, the resolution entitled "Necessity to Put an End to the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America on Cuba will be debated at the United Nations General Assembly.
