United Nations, October 27 (RHC-PL) -- The United Nations headquarters is displaying a photographic exhibition on the resistance of the Cuban people against the blockade imposed by the United States. The display of sixteen photographs are part of the one-week exhibition to coincide with Tuesday's vote at the UN General Assembly of the Cuban-sponsored resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade in force for more than 50 years.

Snapshots by Cuban photographer Roberto Chile and Italian Roberto Fumagalli capture the daily life of several generations of inhabitants of the Caribbean island; two-thirds of them born under Washington's unilateral sanctions.

According to the presentation text by journalist Arleen Rodriguez, the exhibition reflects the shortages that the blockade has caused to Cuban society, but, as the name implies -- "Faces of the Resistance" -- conveys the dignified spirit of the Cuban people.

The exhibition is located in one of the halls of access to the General Assembly, where no one doubts that tomorrow the vast majority of 193 UN member states support the claim to lift the siege, and so ratify the U.S. isolation.

Since the first vote, in 1992, the draft resolution has received an overwhelming support, which as of 2005 resulted in the accompaniment of at least 182 nations, with 188 in favor of the initiative in the last three years.
