Havana, December 1 (RHC)-- The governor from the U.S. state of Texas, Greg Abbott, is currently in Cuba, heading a business delegation. The three-day visit by the Republican governor is aimed at evaluating business opportunities in the framework of re-established diplomatic ties between the United States and Cuba.

During his stay, Abbott is scheduled to meet with authorities at the Cuban Ministry for Foreign Trade and Investment, the Mariel Special Development Zone, the country's Chamber of Commerce and Cuba's CIMEX and Alimport companies.

Abbott is the third U.S. governor to visit Cuba since the two countries announced on December 17th, 2014, their determination to re-establish diplomatic relations.

Over the past several years, business delegations from Texas have visited Cuba to promote normal trade relations with the Caribbean state. The first such delegation arrived in Havana in 2008 and more recently, a business delegation from the southern U.S. state visited Cuba last April to explore trade opportunities in the context of the new rapprochement between the U.S. and Cuba.
