Guadalajara, December 5 (PL-RHC)-- “Diplomacia encubierta con Cuba”, by Peter Kornbluh and William Leogrande was launched on Saturday at the International Book Fair of Guadalajara, Mexico.

“It is the updated, Spanish version of “Back Channel to Cuba: The Hidden History of Negotiations Between Washington and Havana,” Peter Kornbluh, director of the Cuba Project of the National Security Archive at George Washington University, told Prensa Latina news agency.

The book includes a chapter on the process of agreements between Presidents Raúl Castro and Barack Obama announced on December 17, 2014, Kornbluh explained. He added the book has detailed material on the secret talks leading to the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.

The U.S. writer said the public opinion now has access to declassified documents showing Washington's aggressive policy on Havana. He mentioned among the facts the Bay of Pigs invasion, assassination attempts against Fidel Castro, the support to terrorists who shot down a Cuban commercial airliner killing all 73 persons on board, and Washington's isolation policy for over 50 years against the small Caribbean nation.

“However, “Diplomacia encubierta con Cuba” also exposes episodes of communications channels between both countries for many years to seek solutions to their huge disagreements,” pointed out the U.S. academician.

Peter Kornbluh underlined that the main purpose of the book launched today in Mexico and Latin America is to show these contacts determined that the current momentum between Cuba and the United States have precedents in history and should continue “for the benefit of both peoples.”

Peter Kornbluh expects to present the book “Diplomacia encubierta con Cuba” in January in Cuba.
