Havana, December 9 (RHC)-- Ambassador to Cuba of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Charles John Corbette, speaking on behalf of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), thanked Cuba for its solidarity and cooperation with regional countries and peoples.

During a ceremony in Havana to mark December 8th --Cuba-CARICOM Day-- the Dominican ambassador highlighted the presence in Cuba of young students from several CARICOM members, who are taking university and technical courses in the most diverse fields in the framework of scholarships granted by Cuban authorities.

Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina highlighted the historical friendship and solidarity links that unite Cuba and the Caribbean Community, this in reference to the step taken by four Caribbean States 43 years ago, when they established diplomatic relations with Cuba.

The Cuban diplomat described as 'bold' the move by Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago in 1972, adding that it constituted a blow to the policy of isolation towards Cuba promoted by the United States and its allies.
