Havana, December 15 (RHC-PL) –- The visiting President of Cape Verde, Jorge Carlos de Almeida Fonseca, delivers a lecture at the Aula Magna of the University of Havana on Tuesday, in the context of his official visit to Cuba.

Upon his arrival in Havana Monday evening, the African leader said his visit to the island is part of the development of bilateral relations.

Scheduled to meet with Cuban President Raul Castro on Wednesday, the Cape Verdean president will also meet with other Cuban officials such as National Assembly President Esteban Lazo, and with leaders of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution.

The official program of the visit includes a tour of the Center of Molecular Immunology and a tribute at the bust of Amilcar Cabral in Havana's African National Heroes Park.

Cuba and Cape Verde this year celebrated four decades of relations, established shortly after the archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean –- about 500 kilometers off the coast of Senegal -- gained independence from Portugal on July 5, 1975.
