Quito, January 28 (RHC)—Cuban First Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel said the country is thankful to the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) for its support of and solidarity with Cuba. He added that Cuba will continue supporting the causes of the people of the region.

Addressing the high-level segment of the 4th CELAC Summit in Quito, Ecuador, Díaz-Canel particularly thanked the regional bloc for its unwavering support for the Cuban cause against the blockade imposed and maintained by consecutive U.S. administrations against the Caribbean state for over half a century.

The Cuban vice president also thanked CELAC for its support for Cuba's sovereignty over the territory illegally occupied by the U.S. Naval Base in Guantánamo, against the will of the Cuban government and people.

The head of the Cuban delegation to the Quito summit took the opportunity to confirm Cuba's unconditional support for the government and people of Venezuela, whom he said are “the victims of a complex international situation further aggravated by the economic war and destabilization plots unleashed by Venezuelan right-wing sectors with foreign backing.”
