Cuba and Mexico to Expand Cooperation in Sports

Mexico City, February 1 (RHC-PL) -- Cuba and the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon will strengthen cooperation in sports.

The vice president of the Cuban National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder), Roberto León Richard, said Sunday to Prensa Latina that the two sides signed a framework agreement to open new possibilities for the exchange on the subject.

He also explained that the agreement includes in a comprehensive manner 'all we can do in the coming years, from the exchange of coaches, the training bases, collaboration in sports medicine, physical therapy and scientific-technical knowledge accompanying the high performance sport'.

Athletes from Nuevo León can participate in our school games, in Cuba's national Olympics and other events in Cuba, he said.

He recalled that the island and Mexico cherish a long history of sports cooperation. "We are able to continue and expand collaboration with the National Sports Commission of Mexico, as well as at the state level," he added.

León Richard is an icon of Cuban sport, gold medallist in Pan American and Central Games. He represented Cuba in three Olympic Games.
