Cuban Authorities Report Second Imported Case of Zika Virus in the Country

Havana, March 4 (RHC)-- Cuban authorities have reported the second imported case of Zika virus in the country.

The Health Ministry said the patient is a Cuban nurse aged 51,  who was offering her services in the Venezuelan state of Táchira, and arrived in the country on February 23rd, 2016.

The patient began to experience an itchy rash and swelling and pain in her left hand that same day. On the 25th she was admitted to the Celia Sánchez Manduley Hospital, in Granma province.

The ministry reported that from the very beginning, all epidemiological and vector control measures established for such cases were undertaken.

On March 2nd, the Pedro Kouri Institute confirmed that the Real-Time PCR test conducted on admittance to hospital had proven positive for the Zika virus. The health ministry said the patient is at present asymptomatic and showing signs of good health.
