Busy April for Minor Basilica of San Francisco de Asís Concert Hall

The famous Cuban choir Schola Cantorum Coralina, conducted by director Alina Orraca, is giving a concert at this internationally known concert hall on April 4 to mark the 110th anniversary of the birth of Cuban National Poet Nicolás Guillén.

altThe concert takes place on the occasion of the Nicolás Guillén Music and Poetry Festival and Colloquium, currently underway in Havana.  Meanwhile the Crescendo string quartet from Athens, the Greek capital, will give presentations there on April 5, with pieces by Greek composers Nicolas Mantzaros,  Antiochos Evangelatos, Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Hadjidakis and famous Cuban musician José White, to celebrate the Greek National Holiday.

The Minor Basilica will continue busy during April with the opening concert on Saturday of the national tour by the duo D´Accord, made up of pianist Marita Rodríguez and clarinetist Vicente Monterrey, including works by Gabriel Pierné, Darius Milhaud, Carlos Guastavino, Malcom Arnold, Eduardo Morales, and Cuban José María Vitier and Andrés Alén.

Meanwhile, a concert marking the 8th anniversary of the wing quintet Ventus Habana, led by Alina Blanco, will take place at the basilica on Friday, April 13, featuring guests such as the metal quintet Brass Cuba, directed by Leiser Tito Quesada, with works by George Gershwin, Anton Reicha, Astor Piazzola, Giacomo Puccini, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Adrian Argota and Ariel Pérez.

On Saturday, April 21, the tour of the quartet Ébanos de La Habana will wind up on that stage with a concert to mark another anniversary of the artistic life of its director Macario Sanjudo, playing pieces by K. María Weber and Paquito de Rivera, among others, while the CD Sacrilegiosby renowned Cuban pianist and jazz musician Ernán López-Nussa is scheduled to be launched at the famous concert hall on Saturday, April 28th.
