Cuban Fine Arts Museum Hosts US Foundation Exhibition
The headquarters of the Havana based National Fine Arts Museum’s Universal Art collection is hosting the exhibit Una mirada multiple (A Multiple Look), the first private collection by Ella Fontanals-Cisneros of the Miami based Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation –CIFO-.
The selection of pieces kept by the Fontanals-Cisneros family is the first one presented other than at CIFO Miami, the city where the institution is located, and was arranged to encourage cultural exchanges and promote Latin American contemporary art. Curator Osbel Suarez has wanted not to arrange the pieces in chronological order but to present them in five theme groups, covering geographic areas, formats, artists and Cuban artists living in other countries.
The exhibition is reportedly plural and diverse and focuses on Latin American Contemporary Art, the New School of German Photography, Photography, Video and Installation, Contemporary Masters and Outside Cuba. It includes works by over 60 artists from North America and Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia, who have played a key role in the most important arts trends over the past 50 years.
CIFO’s impact on the Latin American art community has been possible thanks to Ella’s perseverance and her steady interest over the past 10 years, since the Foundation was set up in 2002. CIFO is a non-profit organization established by Ella Fontanals-Cisneros and her family to support artists exploring new directions in contemporary art.
