Book on the Cuban Five to be Published in Greece

Havana, May 31 (RHC)-- The Greek Diethnes Vima publishing house will put the book The Five Cuban Fighters in US Prisons on sale next week in an effort to spread the truth of their case to a larger sector of the Greek population.

China and Japan to Launch Yuan-Yen Direct Trading

Beijing, May 31 (RHC)-- The People’s Bank of China has confirmed that China and Japan will start to directly trade their currencies in Shanghai and Tokyo beginning tomorrow, Friday.  The move will shore up trade and financial ties between Asia’s two biggest economies, and also marks another step to raise the yuan’s international role.

Suicide Bomber Kills Five Afghan Police Officers

Kandahar, May 31 (RHC)-- A suicide bomber detonated a car bomb outside a police headquarters in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, killing five police officers.  According to reports from the area, the attack in Kandahar province’s Argistan district also wounded six other police agents.

Liberia’s Charles Taylor Gets 50 Years for War Crimes

Geneva, May 31 (RHC)-- An international tribunal has sentenced former Liberian President Charles Taylor to 50 years in prison following his conviction on war crimes during Sierra Leone’s civil war.  Taylor was found guilty last month of overseeing crimes including murder, rape, conscripting child soldiers and sexual slavery.
