Scientific Research conducted by Cuban institutions has contributed some of the most valuable export products of the Caribbean island, particularly in the biotechnology sector.

The Oil Perforation and Extraction Company in the province of Matanzas was among the entities that received special recognition for its environmental work, which was recognized by the selection of the province as the venue of the main activity to commemorate the World Environment Day.
