Cuban President expresses grief over death of former Soviet leader

Havana, Feb 23, (RHC), -- Cuban President Raul Castro has sent a message of condolence for the death of former Soviet leader Vitaly Vorotnikov, whom he called a close friend of the island.

The letter,read at the funeral of the former president of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Federative Socialist Republic of Russia, expressed great sadness over the death of Vorotnikov, remembered on the island with affection and respect.   

At the funeral ceremony, Cuba's ambassador to Russia, Juan Valdes characterized Vorotnikov as a true friend of Cuba, consistent and honest in all circumstances.

Raul Castro and the Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro also sent wreaths to the funerals of the also former ambassador of the Soviet Union in Havana.
