Cuba Present in Latin American Meetings of the Blind

Havana, Mar 15 (ACN-RHC) A Cuban delegation is taking part in the 7th Congress and the 8th General Assembly of the Latin American Union of the Blind (ULAC).

Among the members of the delegation are graduate student José Monteagudo, one of the founders of the ULAC and current member of its board of directors; professor Jose Raul Baquet, secretary for
Rehabilitation of that regional organization, and Doctor Jose Blanch, president of the National Association for the Blind.

The main theme of the 7th Congress will be citizen participation, with the purpose of promoting the integration of the visually impaired into society and help them to be active members of their communities. The 8th General Assembly of the Union, composed of 19 countries, is being held on March 15th and 16th.

The Latin American Union of the Blind was founded on November 15, 1985, in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Present at its establishment were three Cubans, who have held several posts in the union.
