Cuba to Supply Laos with 180 Metric Tons of Sucrose
Vientiane, April 21 (PL-RHC) The newspaper Vientiane Times reported that Cuba will supply approximately 180 metric tons of sucrose to Laos, which will be mixed with corn and soybeans in a nutritional formula and distributed as a snack to more than 150,000 preschool and primary students.
This is part of a project by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) aimed at fighting low child nutrition, particularly in rural areas of one of the poorest countries in the Indochinese peninsula. The aid was transported by a merchant ship funded by a Japanese citizen, whose name was not disclosed by the publication.
The deputy minister of Education and Sports, Lytou Bouapao, Cuban Ambassador Waldo Reyes and the WFP representative in Vientiane, Eri Kudo, attended the ceremony to deliver the donation, held at the Ministry of Education and Sports.
