Cuba and Indonesia to Expand Commercial Relations

Havana, May 15 (RHC) -- Cuba and the Republic of Indonesia have set out to expand and diversify their commercial relations. During a forum held on Monday at the Hotel Nacional in Havana, organized by the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, the two parties expressed their interest in strengthening bilateral ties, currently well below the potential of each territory, as was pointed out by Teiseran Cornelis, Indonesia’s ambassador to Havana.

Celia Labora, the Chamber’s director for International Relations, pointed out that in order to change that situation, it is necessary to promote better relations between Havana and Jakarta, and encourage the presence of business communities in each country.

A starting point has been the identification of new business opportunities in areas like biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry. Cuban representatives identified among the sectors of higher mutual benefits, the export of health services and of biotechnological products to control pests and diseases.
The two nations have maintained diplomatic relations since 1960, and have signed cooperation agreements in the spheres of culture and sports, as well as in the reciprocal protection of investments.
