Havana, May 31 (RHC) Cuban Parliament President, Ricardo Alarcon de Quesada, congratulated his Syrian counterpart, Mohammed Jihad Al-Laham, on his recent appointment as head of that country’s legislative body. A letter from the president of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba expresses his desire to work towards strengthening cooperation between both legislative bodies.

Alarcón emphasized the important role of the Parliamentary Groups of Friendship, created by both Assemblies. Al-Laham was chosen to lead the People's Assembly of Syria after the May 7th parliamentary elections, part of the reform process introduced by the government of President Bashar al-Assad.
