Cuba Prioritizes Training of Skilled Workers

Havana, June 14 (ACN-RHC) The majority of Cuban high-school graduates this year will take further courses at technical and professional centers as part of local efforts to increase the training of skilled workers in different trades.


The national High School director at the Education Ministry, Zoe La Red, told Granma newspaper that some 75,181 ninth grade graduates, out of a total of 135,000 will join Technical-professional courses, while another 60,000 youths will continue studies to later apply to the university.

 

The Education official said that Cuban youth and their families are now showing better acceptance of technical-professional training. She announced that the next school year will also make this kind of educational option a priority, to be consistent with the current demands of the Cuban economy.

Technical and professional education includes the training in sectors such as construction, agriculture and transport. The Education official said that Cuban education is adopting the country’s development guidelines by preparing youth as technicians and skilled workers, while also considering the growing non-state sector as a source of employment.
