Sri Lanka´s President Ratifies Support of Cuba at Solidarity Meeting
Havana, June 18 (RHC) The President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is on an official visit to Cuba, ratified his country´s support of the island during a meeting on Monday at the Cuban Friendship Institute. He said his country has maintained a firm position in support of the Cuban people.
The Sri Lankan head of state described as very fruitful his recent meeting with President Raul Castro. He also stressed the opportunity he had today of learning about the updating of the Cuban economic model.
Rajapaksa expressed his satisfaction for the encounter at the Friendship Institute, which was attended by relatives of the five Cuban heroes held in the United States since 1998.
The Sri Lankan president will conclude his official visit to Cuba on Tuesday and head for Rio de Janeiro to participate at the Rio plus 20 UN Sustainable Development Conference.
Traditional and fraternal relations between Sri Lanka and Cuba are marked by bilateral efforts to develop relations in several fields, such as healthcare, education, culture and sports.
