Miami to Host International Conference on the Cuban Five
Havana, July 11 (RHC) -- Miami-based Cuban émigré groups have called an international conference to discuss the appeals process in the case of four of the five Cuban anti-terrorists held in U.S. prisons since 1998.
The conference will be held next Sunday, July 15th, at the Key Biscayne Hall of the Embassy Suites Hotel in Miami, and is organized by the solidarity organizations Alianza Martiana, the Antonio Maceo Brigade, the Jose Martí Association, Círculo Bolivariano and the Association of Christian Women in Defense of the Family.
A press release issued by the organizers recalls that the appeals of the Cuban anti-terrorists and other required legal documents are now in the hands of Miami District Judge Joan Lenard.
At the meeting, participants will also discuss issues related to the conditions of supervised release imposed by U.S. authorities on one of the Five, Rene Gonzalez. The release states: “As a matter of elementary human solidarity, we can never stop claiming justice for the Five, whose only crime was to risk their own lives to protect other people from terrorism.”
According to the organizers, the conference will be dedicated to Rene’s brother, lawyer Roberto Gonzalez, who passed away recently in Cuba. Roberto was an active member of the Five’s defense team.
