Cuba and Norway strengthen cooperation with Haiti

Havana, July 13, (RHC), -- Cuba and Norway have strengthened their solidarity with Haiti with the signing of a triangular cooperation agreement aimed at funding the Cuban medical services in the Caribbean nation.

altNorwegian ambassador to Cuba, John Pette Opdahl, said Cuba and Norway maintain this kind of cooperation since 2010, as a contribution to the restoration for the damages caused by the earthquake that struck Haiti in January that year.

Pette Opdahl added that Norway was one of the first governments to provide funding for the reconstruction of Haiti, in particular for the creation of a permanent medical infrastructure, aid that up to the date reaches 150 million USD.

Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Ileana Nuñez, praised Norway’s support for the Cuban medical mission in Haiti and in the fight of the cholera epidemic that stroke that country shortly after the earthquake.

Jean Victor Geneus, Haiti's ambassador to Cuba, expressed the gratitude and appreciation of the Haitian people and government for the efforts of both nations, which meet the specific requirements demanded by the situation in the country, in particular Cuban doctors´ work.
