Cuba and India talk trade in Havana

Havana, July 13, (RHC), -- India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, has paid a three-day official visit to Cuba aimed at strengthening trade and investment ties between the two countries.

altScindia, who came accompanied by a business delegation, held on Wednesday official talks with the Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations, Marcelino Medina, during which both dignitaries reviewed the existing friendly ties between Cuba and India, vowing to strengthen the economic component of those relations.

The Indian Minister mentioned the energy and mining industry, as a prospect field for mutually beneficial cooperation.

In addition, Scindia formerly invited Cuba to the upcoming India International trade fair in November 2012 and confirmed India’s participation in the Havana Trade Fair this year.

Furthermore, in talks with the Cuban Foreign Trade and Investment Minister Rodrigo Malmierca, both sides expressed disappointment at the low level of annual bilateral trade (ca. US$ 40 million), expressing their common will to promote economic cooperation and trade.

India and Cuba are due to resume economic talks in Delhi, and the Cuban Minister was requested to suggest dates for holding the negotiations. (India Blooms News Service)
